Class Descriptions
Classes in Alphabetical Order
Awesome Animals and Plants: Rising 1st Grade – Rising 4th Grade:
Students will plan their design for their animal or plant stitchery projects. Students will learn all of the techniques they can use to complete a stitchery project.
Beginner Crochet: Rising 5th Grade -Rising 8th Grade:
Students will learn the basics of crocheting and create at least one small animal.
Beginning Sewing: Rising 1st Grade – Rising 4th Grade:
We will be learning sewing basics! Threading a needle, basic stitches, finger safety while sewing. Our end goal will be a small stuffed animal! *We will be using quilting needles which are fairly dull in place of normal needles in hopes of avoiding fingers being poked!
Bucket Drumming: Rising 1st Grade – Rising 4th Grade / Rising 5th Grade – Rising 8th Grade:
Campers will learn to read and play percussion notation on bucket drums, and will play (and sing) along to pop songs. Returning campers to the drum class will be given solo, improvisation and expanded drumming opportunities.
Cheer Basics: Rising 1st Grade – Rising 8th Grade:
We will learn the basic foundations of cheerleading such as motions, jumps, stunts, cheer/chanting skills, learn cheer equipment and proper safety knowledge and technique in a fun setting. Each camper will get to complete a craft activity. All campers need to wear cool clothing, wear sneakers, and have a water bottle.
Cheering & Chanting: Rising 1st Grade – Rising 8th Grade:
We will learn the difference between cheering and chanting. Each camper will learn 2 cheers and 4 chants and have the opportunity to draft and create their own cheer or chant. Each camper will get to demonstrate their cheer/chant for the class and create one cheer to perform at the end of the week. All campers need to wear cool clothing, wear sneakers, and have a water bottle.
Cheer Choreography 101: Rising 1st Grade – Rising 8th Grade:
We will learn how to choreograph and learn a fun choreographed routine. Each camper will get the chance to demonstrate what they have learned at the end of the week as a class.
Cheer Choreography 102: Rising 1st Grade – Rising 8th Grade:
Part 2 of Cheer Choreography 101 – We will continue to learn choreographed routines and cheers. Each camper will get the chance to demonstrate what they have learned at the end of the week as a class. This class will allow more time for the campers to learn all of the material from the week. This class should only be taken if Cheer Choreography 101 is also taken.
*** For all cheerleading classes: All campers need to wear cool clothing, wear sneakers, and have a water bottle.
Coil Basketry: Rising 5th Grade – Rising 8th Grade:
Students will form a coil basket with their own yarn color choices. Each student will make their basket by wrapping a cord or rope with yarn and stitching it at regular intervals.
Creating Music with Orff Instruments: Rising 5th Grade – Rising 8th Grade:
In this class students will have access to Orff instruments such as xylophones and metallophones. We will learn how to play music together in an ensemble of instruments
Creative Greeting Cards and Fun Art Work: Rising 5th Grade – Rising 8th Grade:
Students will use various crafting tools such as embossing folders, die cutting, rubber and clear stamps, colored pencils etc. to make a Collection of Original Cards or Wall Art.
Crochet (Beginner): Rising 5th Grade – Rising 8th Grade:
Begin with different stitches, chaining and single crocheting. If time permits, we will make a small change purse.
Egg Carton Art: Rising 1st Grade – Rising 4th Grade:
Come and see just what you can make from a cardboard egg carton! Relief sculptures, a mask, and flowers are just a few possibilities. Prepare to get a little messy and bring an old shirt for a paint smock.
Extraordinary Denim: Rising 5th Grade – Rising 8th Grade:
Spend the week creating a painted, stenciled and stamped tote bag. Or, bring in your denim jacket, jeans or skirt to paint or stencil. THIS IS PERMANENT FABRIC PAINT! I love to alter and paint clothing and recycle something old making it new. Come enjoy the process and after creating your tote bag to get the hang of it, you could work on a jacket, skirt or jeans you brought from home.
Far Out Fish Stitchery: Rising 1st Grade – Rising 4th Grade:
Students will draw an original fish design for their stitchery projects to be transformed onto a piece of burlap. Students will learn all of the techniques they can use to complete a stitchery project.
Green is our Color: Rising 1st Grade – Rising 4th Grade / Rising 5th Grade – Rising 8th Grade:
Calling all nature lovers! This will be an earth friendly session focused on recycling, composting (with a grossly cool surprise), planting and animal conservation. Yoga and art will be part of each class so we can use our bodies and minds! Dress comfortably.
Gone Fishin’ Paper Mache: Rising 1st Grade – Rising 8th Grade:
Come play with balloons, newspaper, glue, glitter glue, paint, daubers and more. We are making paper mache fish. Let your imagination run wild with this project. Simple supplies but lots of fun! And, we will make them so they can hang. What color will your fish be? Wear clothes that can get dirty.
Intermediate Sewing: Rising 4th Grade – Rising 8th Grade:
We will review sewing basics then move on to creating our own doll and clothes for the doll.
Learning to Sew: Rising 5th Grade – Rising 8th Grade:
Students will learn basic pattern cutting skills, hand sewing, and machine sewing to create a small cosmetic/pencil size pouch.
Magic Camp: Rising 1st Grade – Rising 8th Grade:
Magician Hunter Rhodes will teach the fundamentals of magic. Campers will make and learn magic tricks as well as learn some of the history and the art of magic.
Masks Galore Mixed Media: Rising 1st Grade – Rising 8th Grade:
Who doesn’t like a mask? We will explore mardi gras style masks to be held on a stick, simple paper plate masks and full face masks also to be held on a stick. This is about mixed media with some mask forms being used, but simple cardboard as well. Add paint, tissue paper, glitter glue, painted clothespins, jewels, feathers and trims and you have a fun to “wear” unique mask.
Mini Murals: Rising 1st Grade – Rising 4th Grade:
Students will explore the world of murals created by various artists. Students will use a variety of sources and their imagination to create a variety of “mini” murals this week.
Miniature Gardening and Planting: Rising 1st Grade – Rising 8th Grade:
We will be making miniature gardens with various mediums. This isn’t just your regular fairy gardening…we will create mini gardens for our dinosaur and monster truck loving folks too!
Parachutes, Ribbons, and Scarves, Oh My: Rising 1st Grade – Rising 4th Grade:
In this class students will move to various pieces of music using props such as scarves, ribbons, and even a parachute. They will have fun learning all about different kinds of music while getting to use fun musical props.
Pom Pom Rug and Fun with Yarn: Rising 5th Grade – Rising 8th Grade:
Students will use yarn and a pom-pom maker to create enough pom poms for a Soft Fun Rug approximately 14×14 inches.
Puppet Time: Rising 1st Grade – Rising 4th Grade:
Campers will explore the many ways to express oneself through the art of puppetry. They will create puppets with traditional and non traditional materials.
Recorder Ensemble: Rising 5th Grade – Rising 8th Grade:
This class is geared to those students that have already learned to play the recorder. We will have fun learning to play other songs on the recorder. A recorder will be provided with the class.
Recycled Art – Recycled Materials: Rising 1st Grade – Rising 4th Grade / Rising 5th Grade – Rising 8th Grade:
In this class students will create various items with recycled materials. Plastic bag crafts, rugs from old t-shirts and/or sheets, and magazine art are just a few examples of the crafts available for your child to create.
***For all recycled art classes: Please bring in any clean and ready to recycle milk cartons, cereal boxes, old t-shirts if possible!
Recycled Music Instruments: Rising 1st Grade – Rising 4th Grade:
In this class students will create various instruments with recycled materials. Guitars from cereal boxes and rain sticks from paper towel rolls are just a few examples of the crafts available for your child to create.
Rest and Relax: Rising 1st Grade – Rising 8th Grade:
Make Scented Goats Milk Soap as well as Shower Steamers using various mold designs for personal use or for gifts. Students will also Learn to Zentangle® – A fun relaxing art form that allows students to draw shapes or lines in simple repetitive patterns (called Tangles) creating unique pieces of art that are whimsical yet structured. Students can then Zen Doodle to decorate other items brought from home such as sneakers, clothing, fabric bags, mugs, rocks, etc.
STEAM Creations: Rising 1st Grade – Rising 8th Grade:
Let’s explore STEAM! Campers will be immersed in the world of design creativity. They will choose a challenge and build using recycled materials.
Stitchery As Art: Rising 1st Grade – Rising 4th Grade / Rising 5th Grade – Rising 8th Grade:
Students will explore basic stitch techniques on plastic canvas. Students will choose one or two stitchery projects to complete during the week using plastic canvas and yarn.
Taylor Swift – Mixed Media: Rising 1st Grade – Rising 4th Grade / Rising 5th Grade – Rising 8th Grade:
We’re in our Taylor Swift Art Era! Campers will be immersed in the world of Taylor Swift and create a variety of crafts.
Thread Applications: Rising 4th Grade – Rising 8th Grade:
We will learn about different ways to use thread. Mending, cross stitch, hemming, bracelet making and other ways to use thread.
Wonderful Weaving: Rising 5th Grade – Rising 8th Grade:
Students will learn how to prepare a cardboard loom and weave with their choice of yarn colors. Students will learn various weaving techniques to make their projects.
Wonderland – Mixed Media: Rising 1st Grade – Rising 8th Grade:
Who doesn’t love an adventure? Alice needs some help while trapped in Wonderland. Campers will be part of the design team to create unique items for our new Alice world.
Wristlets and Wraps: Rising 5th Grade – Rising 8th Grade:
Students will make a Phone Case Beaded Wristlet well a beautiful embroidery floss or beaded Friendship Bracelet. Other projects include wrapped Jars and bottles with colorful yarn and wrapped river rocks with cording
